Hey folks, I'm Lego! I found this site through Tumblr, and it looks really helpful so far! I have zero idea of what to do when it comes to strength training, so I'm slowly collecting ideas as the new posts come out I've already done some squats for a few days. I think the last time I lifted weights was more than 10 years ago. Now I'm probably going to be part of the gymless crowd, although it would be good to get into a gym eventually. I've never been able to stick with an exercise routine, and get overwhelmed by the amount of (often contradictory) fitness information that's out there. Maybe this forum will provide me with the accountability that I really need. I have depression + anxiety, and I've heard from other depressed/anxious people that lifting really helps them. I also have very low energy, and maybe strength training will help me there as well. At 30, I already notice that I don't bounce back as quickly as I once did, but I want to be in good shape when I'm old. Basically, this is something I've been curious about for a while!

Hi lego! Welcome to the forums! I deal with some pretty serious anxiety myself, and there's a remarkable difference between the days that I train and if I have to skip a day for any reason. I know that having a routine laid out so that you know what you're doing before you get started can be really important for both sticking with it and relieving some anxiety. My hope is to put together a few different calisthenics routines for those that are going gym-less very soon I'm glad to hear you've gotten started with some squats! How is that going for you, and how are you feeling?

How is that going for you, and how are you feeling? Thanks, routines are good! I'll keep an eye out for that. With squats, my knees hurt at first, but I tried the box idea, and that helped. I felt like I could do them for a while, after that! I think I'm still working on getting the right form and the breathing pattern.

I'm in a very similar boat to you--I'm 30 and have low energy/depression/anxiety/iffy knees as well. Strength training has totally been helping me with all of those things! Except being 30 but being 30 is awesome, I don't need help there. (seriously it's so nice to be out of your 20's, isn't it?)
